Some background: the company I currently work for has a web agency side that builds solutions on WordPress (PHP) and Symfony (PHP).
For our WordPress offering, our hosting no longer meets our needs, for several reasons (security, scalability, redundancy). I wanted us to move to a PaaS (Platform as a Service) to take care of:
- Maintenance
- Scalability
- Security
One question is paramount for us: cost 💰. With a fleet of 120+ WordPress sites, a PaaS will cost more than our shared hosting. So cost will weigh in the decision just as much as performance.
This post covers my experience with French PaaS providers. Note that my blog is hosted on GitHub: if you spot typos or inaccuracies, pull requests are welcome. The posts are available here.
Section VI has the Google Sheets link with the full set of tests I ran. I chose to bring up only a few of them in the posts so as not to hurt readability.
